This interactive, hands-on workshop is designed specifically for library staff working directly with children under 5 years. This is a practical workshop focussing on the delivery of library programs: baby time, rhyme time and story time.

The workshop will focus on your role as an advocate and facilitator of children’s programming, with a particular focus on the skills and knowledge utilised to provide high quality, inclusive, evidenced-based, fun and interactive programs for both children and their families.

This one day workshop will cover a range of activities and the key topics include:

  • What is First 5 Forever?
  • Examining baby time, rhyme time and story time sessions
  • Exploration of the facilitation model of delivery
  • Linking activities to early literacy research
  • Embedding language and early literacy strategies into library programs
  • Discussing library programming and exploring challenges and strategies
  • Linking families to messages, resources, the collection and community

Participants are provided with a ‘take home’ pack with information, checklists and session plans that can be used to immediately put workshop content into practice.

Opportunities to learn and discuss ideas with peers from other library services are also supported.
