State Library of Queensland is offering ten Community and Cultural Services Leaders the opportunity to attend an exclusive, professional development (PD) workshop at State Library of Queensland in Brisbane.

The partnership between state and local government is essential to enable a vibrant and dynamic network of public libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres (IKCs).  Realising our potential: A vision for Queensland public libraries (the Vision) articulates this partnership and communicates a shared and aspirational future for Queensland public libraries.

State Library supports Queensland’s network of public libraries to realise the Vision with a range of services and initiatives, including providing PD opportunities.This PD opportunity is tailored to Community and Cultural Services leaders who manage library services in their portfolio.

Benefits to attendees:

  • Two days of learning provided by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) —the national professional organisation for the Australian library and information services sector
  • Receive a detailed overview of the changing library and information sector from Australia’s national peak body for libraries
  • Understand the contributions public libraries make to communities
  • Meet and network with Community and Cultural Services Leaders from around the state
  • Discuss opportunities and challenges with peers including Senior State Library and ALIA staff.

As a PD participant you:

  • will receive free enrolment in Library Orientation
  • can apply for a travel bursary for travel and accommodation costs.

Who should apply for Library Orientation PD?

Library Orientation PD is tailored for people in management or leadership positions that encompass libraries and who come from non-library disciplines and would like to:

  • improve their understanding of the library world
  • put the future evolution of libraries in context
  • confirm/adapt library impressions and fill in any knowledge gaps
  • realise the potential of library services in their community.
