Forever Stories are going live!

Congratulations to Bundaberg Regional Libraries and all the young people and community members involved in the 2014 Forever Stories project. Forever Stories was developed in response to a request from Gureng Gureng Elders to record local stories from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members of the Wide Bay region, for inclusion in the library’s local history collection and online to preserve local knowledge and culture.

With support from SLQ and the ABC Wide Bay team, Bundaberg Libraries also included a digital storytelling workshop for young people. Local Elders’ stories were retold in digital format by young people during a week-long workshop, and are now on YouTube: Why the Sea Turtle Comes to Mon Repos and Why the Men Have Beards both by Merv Johnson, and The Creation Story of the Butterfly told by Mr Damein Aidon and authorised by custodian Nai Nai Bird.

These stories were selected to be screened at the opening night of KidzFlicks, the Sydney International Festival of Films by Children, next Friday 20 March!
